Post-Denominational?

What Is a Post-Denominational Church?

At Grace River Fellowship, we describe ourselves as a post-denominational church. That doesn’t mean we’re against denominations or traditions. Instead, it means we recognize the richness of many Christian traditions, but we don’t want to be defined—or divided—by denominational lines.

For centuries, churches have been marked by denominational labels: Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, and more. Each of these streams carries strengths and insights. But too often, these “boxes” have also divided the body of Christ.

A post-denominational church is committed to something different:

  • Unity in the essentials: We anchor ourselves in the historic Christian faith—centered on Jesus Christ, the authority of Scripture, and the Great Commission.
  • Freedom in the secondary: We seek to learn from the best of various traditions without being bound by their structures.
  • Focus on mission: We believe God’s call is bigger than any one denomination—it’s about bringing His kingdom here and now.

In other words, we’re not trying to start something “new” so much as return to something ancient and true: the Church as a united people following Jesus together.
